lvis mejía s newest project, titled anthropology of amnesia is an acousmatic essay addressing our utter necessity to remember in the face of existential oblivion, an innate behaviour of the human race. presented as a 33 minute long continuous composition, anthropology of amnesia unrolls as a series of chapters, the contemplative character of the piece opening a particular frame within the listening experience, where lvis mejía attempts to convey the phenomenon of the collective consciousness through the cultural traces we leave behind. mejía s takes the idea of -one species, one culture, one past- and places it at the center of the concept of the piece. anthropology of amnesia examines a number of interpretations of rituals, orchestrations, chants, synthesis and field recordings - nestled within the piece are recordings of animals, fire, water and a human heart - the sum of these sonic identities incidentally reshaping their roots. the diversity of the sonic sources highlights the comparative study element of mejía s work yet the common thread remains the human experience, recorded stories and the viva voce.

last years on the corner underground smash release, the 12inch ep santuris embaire umeme, introduced uganda�s mugwisa international xylophone group (m.i.x.g) to the world. the recordings center on the embaire, a giant xylophone native to ugandan folk music, which is dug into a pit for a natural, earthy bass resonance as gargantuous as the instrument itself. the instrument performs a key role in village life, with ceremonial playing sessions lasting for hours on end. these recordings may be esoteric in nature but they add important context to the santuri�s embaire umeme 12inch and are a vital documentation of the iganga village�s culture, as well as that of uganda. jones has artfully chopped the epic session into a series of short evocative chapters to create a pioneering masterpiece. remix duties are led by griot house innovators, the diabolcal liberties, who have raved-up some sun ra frequencies for the cosmic junglist crew. last but never least, victoria topping has created beautiful artwork using the session photography taken by jones during the recordings

boris bunnik is no stranger in the world of electronic music. he released several albums and ep�s under a variety of monikers since 2007 on labels like delsin, shipwrec, frustrated funk and his own transcendent imprint. fauxpas musik welcomes him for a new project called severnaya.

temperatures are dropping and we re all feeling the effects. bordello a parigi is letting the cold winds of the north swirl inside its doors with russia s volta cab bringing a fresh 2lp to the table. a spread of influences come together for the eleven tracks of rise again. take -emerald s phantasy-, a piece built on layers of percussion that blends elements of disco with notes of techno. -dark room- is a different affair. arctic chords are cut with electro and distant vocals for an unsettling treat. -kruger- stomps to a terse beat before lush pads bloom in a work that builds to dizzying peaks. warm blasts balance these colder moments, the rich grooves of -savage fury-, the floor filling funk of -board scandinavia- and the removed romance of -sweet exorcist- all show another shade to the volta cab sound and of course there s more. rise again is an audio collection of vibrant colours and hues, tracks pitch from icy blues to autumnal ambers and fiery reds, a musical kaleidoscope that stretches across a spectrum of styles.

this split lp compiles the output of two closely related bands from, as suggested by the title, the hot, humid and (at the time) socially isolated city of brisbane, australia � an unlikely location for synth-pop and new wave music during the 1980s. prod & the moonbaby were a high school duo experimenting with tape loops, cheap electronics and primitive sampling.. the result is certainly lo-fi, light-hearted and naive, but also charming and the music belies the young age of the musicians. ash in october was in many ways a logical progression of prod & the moonbaby and shared some of the same personnel, but also added some new wave influence through extra instrumentation and more serious, considered lyrics. most of these tracks have never been heard before outside a handful of self-distributed tapes and this compilation was compiled over several years by the artists in collaboration with hysteric and nick mariano (crispy nuggets).

uk techno veteran kirk degiorgio takes on the future/past guise once more for an exquisite 4 tracker on the belgian de:tuned label. kirk struck gold during a recent dig through some of his old dat tapes and unearthed 2 previously unreleased gems: a finished version of his widely acclaimed 90s classic �hyperspace� described by kirk as the real hyperspace and �cosmos�, a rough uptempo percussive workout, proper crunch future/past sound.
the dat tapes also revealed a couple of tracks that were only ever released on cd: �try 2004 funk mix 2� (from the historic 1993 �applied rhythmic technology� compilation) and �locator� (from the sublime �objets d�art 92-95� compilation). the cds have become rare and wanted items, and so kirk and de:tuned decided to finally press these tracks on wax.
all tracks were mastered straight off the original dat tapes by matt colton to guarantee that extra crisp sound quality. this release will be available on 180 gr vinyl.

david gtronic is very well known for being a fundamental member of the famous vatos locos crew and for his badass releases on dissonant, kina music or sci-tec records. david was born in colombia and he s now based in berlin, from where he delivers this awesome ep called kryptoo.a kryptoo is a minimalistic journey of rough, metallic, cosmic percussions and spongy bass lines. deep pads and chords in constant evolution make these tracks a true hypnotic experience. topping it up we ahave dan farserelli remixing sequence, probably the punchiest and most direct track in the album

initially the music by the knob, the finger & the it was conceived as some sort of ritual background ambient during extensive electroacoustic picnics by the river or in the fields. in the course of these sessions, the knob, the finger & the it make use of battery powered miniature electronics, diy synths and acoustic bricolage, which mingle with the sounds of the open space: some wind, a crackling campfire, a train passing by over a bridge nearby...

this has always been a rare 12inch originally only released in the uk in 1979, phoenix was considered to be too disco at the time and the release pretty much sank without trace - one reason why finding those original uk 12inches is near on impossible these days. just 2 copies on discogs and a mint one will be circa £50 if you re ever lucky enough to find one. however, since 1979 phoenix has grown in stature and what was once considered to be a twee disco tune has now become a huge collector s item and a staple in the right clubs. no surprise really as this is norman connors at the top of his game and the production is red-hot. how phoenix never made it to 12inch vinyl in the u.s. is one of the great mysteries of life but here it is on beautiful fresh 12inch vinyl some 38 years later. as with all our 12inch re-issues we ve replicated the original label. luckily there are no bootlegs to contend with on this release, so this is the first re-issue of this song since the original release date, so order with confidence

behind the sstrom moniker hides one half of shxcxchcxsh and a long-time activist of sweden s experimental techno scene. having fallen in love with simple melodies and catchy arpeggios when being a member of bitpop/synth band slagsmalsklubben, he transferred these sensibilities further into his other projects. sstrom s excellent 2016 debut for semantica records was an excellent exercise in lush aquatic techno with breezy and lush atmospheres. the new ep -vitriol- is informed by the personal experience of the producer, which adds additional warmth and emotional weight to the record. the release brings back memories of earth pigments his father used when painting things in their house, the colours created were usually dark toned with some pastel lightness. this juxtaposition is felt throughout the record, which balances between cinematic futurist moods, steel-wool smoothness and subtle physicality due to its textured nature. the title track kicks-off with detroitish synth loops wrapped in dense lo-fi soundscapes, while -sienna- increases the tension by introducing more expansive melodic appeal intertwined with intensity of feather-like 4/4 rhythmics. -umbra- brings some shadowy sonic undertones immersed into a sea of crackle with melodies constantly resurfacing. the closing -ockra- bursts with more groovy patterns, yet retaining the same elegant warmth, which seems to be the signature element of this ep. while listening to all these tracks you feel like touching some alien surfaces with utmost sensitiveness with surreal landscapes stretching out in your imagination. this is carefully crafted introvert music, yet having some elegant dancefloor appeal.

to make it to album number three, a group has to make a compelling debut and then avoid the sophomore slump. if you reach that third record, you are supposed to be a professional, a stone-faced musical grown-up. but don�t tell that to de lux. after their 2014 debut voyager and 2015 follow-up generation, the la duo is gearing for its best and brightest lp, more disco songs about love. the difference between this album and all the rest? let s ask the band: we like to say voyage was our baby, generation was our baby all grown up and more disco songs about love thinks growing up sucks and just wants to party smart.

having established itself with eps from duke slammer and dmx krew, dublin�s modern magic welcomes bari�s armonics for the label�s third release. a trained pianist and resident dj/curator of the we talk event series in his home city, armonics draws influence from electronic music across the past 40 years: chicago & acid house, italo- & electro-disco, new wave, synth-pop and vaporwave.
his italowave style is a fusion of these retro-futuristic and cosmic styles, forged through armonic�s production processes which include cassette recordings, vintage synths & modern korg/roland gear. the look alive ep is the producer�s second release, following a debut on slow motion in late 2016.
accompanying the ep�s three original tracks is an anthemic, piano-led remix of red eye by international feel act black spuma, aka lauer (tuff city kids/arto mwambe) and fabrizio mammarella (telespazio).

the mighty dungeon meat s marauders into the finest club cuts continues with their first offering of 2017 and their first various artist e.p on the label. a collection of dance floor dynamite set to detonate as soon as the needle hits the groove. here we see the boys recruiting some new beat bandits with ron obvious and per hammar and also reviving one of the og dungeon masters blunt instruments. each one bringing the the heat with their prime cuts of meat, making this one hefty slab of wax that is a sure fire winner for those dark strobe lit rave chambers. as with all dungeon meat release these are tried and tested for maximum ass-assination.

presence unknown is a new vinyl and digital label curated by longtime producer and dj, neil keating aka controlled weirdness. neil has been behind the decks and deeply involved in all aspects of club and underground sound system culture since the early eighties. he has released his music on numerous underground labels and performed all over the world, from plush clubs to dirty warehouses. worth a read are a couple of published articles by neil regarding his experiences on the dance floor of underground clubs in london and new york in the eighties. see links at the bottom of this page for these as well as a detailed biography and discography. there is also a link to a recent 40-minute interview with distant planet tv that explores his cultured rave history. the second release on presence unknown contains four future-retro house grooves from controlled weirdness crafted using a variety of analogue and digital hardware in his south london studio.

three releases deep now, shadow play transports us back to the nineties with this extra special collection of music from uk wizard scott edward. the bristolian producer dropped a killer series of tracks from 1993 onwards, using a variety of aliases to explore the realms of the techno universe. it�s an honour for shadow play to be able to rerelease one of scott�s classics, access activist, alongside three previously unreleased cuts from the same era. we hope you enjoy these classic examples of british underground techno.

part four in alden tyrell s latest project: vorm variaties , a 5 release series consisting of tracks recorded in the last 2 years. the vorm variaties tracks were a style excercise for tyrell, flexing his producermuscle while health issues forced him to stop touring. initially he had no intention to release these tracks but we consider them to good not to put out, infact we were almost forced to start these series because of them! all tracks selected are variations on classic techno forms, using classic style ingredients and the 909. all 5 variaties are different in style, yet all homogenous, all with alden tyrell s sound signature... on point production skills and stripped down arrangements.
